Application for Adoption

** Please read this before you enquire about adopting rats on a breeding contract! **

  • FarStar rats are sold as pets to approved homes only and will never be used as food, to produce food for another animal or used in research or to produce research animals.

  • Rats are sold in same sex pairs unless it can be proven that your currently own the same sex or a suitable altered rat.

  • Babies will be $20 each and sold on an adoption contract only.

  • We retain all ownership rights of any pup until a contract has been signed by both the breeder and adopter. By reserving a rat you are expressing interest in adopting the rat but you do not own that rat until a contract has been signed by both myself and the adopter. Last minute changes as to the availability of the rat are extremely rare but possible, and no guarantee is made until contracts are signed and the rat is sent home with you.

  • Once your adoption application has been approved, please follow the reservation and adoption process:

  • Babies are available for reservation at three weeks of age.  I do not maintain an official waiting list.  It is up to the adopter to to express interest in individual available babies.

  • After the babies have been given individual names and before the reservation date listed, please send me a "Statement of Interest" email indicating which rats you are interested in. Please list your first, second, third, etc. choices.

  • Before midnight on the reservation date I will put up the reserves.

  • Rats will be listed with a "voice" reservation until the non-refundable deposit ($10) is received.

  • Deposits must be made with in seven days.  If no deposit is received within the time frame, the rat will go back to "available" status.

  • Once the deposit has been received then the rat will be listed as "reserved".

  • We retain all ownership rights of any pup until a contract has been signed by both the breeder and adopter. By reserving a rat you are expressing interest in adopting said rat but you do not own that rat until a contract has been signed by both myself and the adopter. Last minute changes as to the availability of said rat are extremely rare but possible, and no guarantee is made until contracts are signed and rat is sent home with you.

  • Rats are available to go home after they turn six weeks old.  I am willing to drive up to about an hour away to meet you to place rats.  I do have family in Chicago and have met people in there before to place rats.

  • When you pick up your rats, please bring a suitable pet carrier (a cardboard box does not count) and be prepared to sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining balance on the rats.

For the duration of the rat's life, FarStar Rattery maintains the first right of refusal on all of our rats.  If, by some chance, the current owner needs to re-home the rat, we must be notified first, and all actions thereafter will have to be agreed upon, whether the rat returns to us, or is re-homed by the new owner.
